My son Avery, was diagnosed with PDD-NOS (and also meets the criteria for Aspergers) this past fall. It took my a long time to convince doctors and my own family that something was "different" with Avery. I knew being a mother would be hard work but I didn't think it would be so hard that I would cry everyday. I'm glad that he got the diagnosis but relieved knowing I'm not going crazy.
I thought getting the diagnosis was the hard part, it wasn't. We are now fighting the school system for help he deserves. Just because he has high-functioning autism and can read, do math and write at age 4, doesn't mean he doesn't have other issues that affect our lives EVERYDAY!! I just wish I didn't have to fight for everything in my child's life. I'm emotionally and mentally tired.
