It is Prematurity Awareness Month for the March of Dimes.

Here is a little excert from the March of Dimes website.

November is Prematurity Awareness month and will be recognized through out the nation with rallies, expert panel discussions, and tours of neonatal intensive care units. Prematurity is now the nation's leading killer of newborns. It has now reached epidemic proportions –525,000 babies are born prematurely each year. The health consequences for infant survivors can be devastating: cerebral palsy, mental retardation, and other neurological conditions. Our purpose today is to raise public awareness about prematurity, and to mobilize the political will to act. (Taken from marchofdimes.com)

To make it a little easier to relate to, one in 7 babies in Texas is born prematurely. We were very lucky that our daughter did not suffer any complications that would impact her daily life from being born premature. There are so many families that have to endure much graver circumstances that impact their children for life. This is just one more reason we thank God every day for our little micro preemie. Please join us in wearing a lavender ribbon in support this month.
