  • Personal Statement

    I am a mom to four wonderful children.  My oldest, Char, has Glutaric Acidemia Type 1.  This is a rare metabolic disorder in which her body is unable to break down proteins.  Charlene had what they call a metabolic crisis (brain stroke) at 8 months old.  She was left with only one part of her brain not affected. She is bound to a wheelchair and is now on a ventilator for added support. She is fed by a g-tube.

    I also have three other children wo were not affected. They are full of life and make everyday a joy.
