I have a son who has struggled with RSV, asthma, & sleep apnea from 5 weeks of age up until the age of 2. At age 2 b/c of his compromised immune system he contracted meningitis and was left with some moderate neurological problems that caused a developmental delay in his speech, fine motor skills and cognitive development. Although the asthma and apnea cleared up, he has been working hard to overcome the neurological effects of the meningitis. We are undergoing lots of speech and occupational therapy to try and prepare him for kindergarten. We also recently discovered as a separate issue that he has a brain cyst. At this point, I feel he has undergone enough and am wondering when the issues will end. He is very strong and has survived through all of this, while maintaining the ability to make us all smile and laugh every day. He is making great progress and we are hoping some day he may catch up to his own age group. (Although I have accepted the fact that it may take a few years to get there.) I can tell you it has not been easy to have a child stuck in their "terrible two's" for the past 3 years...
I know we all have a story, and that was mine. If you are seeking advice on issues we have encountered, please feel free to ask. I would love to share my experience and knowledge with you. I am also open to any advice or support you may have for us. I believe that with a strong support network, we can overcome any challenge.
