Millbridge is challenging all students to go ‘LITTER FREE' for Lunch.
A Litter-free lunch program favors the use of reusable food containers, drink containers, utensils, and napkins. They discourage the use of disposable packaging, such as prepackaged foods, plastic bags, juice boxes and pouches, paper napkins, and disposable utensils.
The challenge will run from October 27th to April 22nd.
Each month, our lunch trash will be weighed by volunteers.
One class (per grade) that reduces their litter the MOST by Earth Day,
will receive a prize!
How can you help?
Use a lunch box instead of a brown paper bag.
Pack a thermos instead of a drink box.
Use reusable containers for food instead of plastic baggies.
Did you know?
The average school-age child generates 67 pounds of waste
(often more than their own body weight!) per year.
An average size elementary school accumulates
18,760 pounds of lunch waste in a year.
You could be saving approx $250/year with recyclable containers and utensils.
Ask your student how they can be ‘Litter Free' for lunch.
