I am part Native American, Cherokee and Oglala (lakota) Souix .. I am a sci-fi/fantasy novelist and do drawing and poetry in my spare time. The biggest devotion I have in my life is to my son. I had a daughter as well, her name was Lili but she died of complications of a common childhood virus called RSV. She died on Dec. 1st 2006. I have my hard days since Lili's passing and then I have days that my son gets me through them better than anything or anyone ever could. I am trying to look deeper into RSV and what happens to cause such a common childhood ailment to become fatal. I am not sure if there is an organization that covers that information but I am looking into that as well. I am just now getting to the point where I can even think of taking the nursary down and still get sick to my stomach at the thought. I read the following poem that I wrote at her funeral on Dec. 8th. I thought I would share it all with you.
Pilamayaye (thank you in lakota)
Little Pains (c) Bekah A. (2006) How bad is a life without love to give? Well I say to myself, that's a horrible life to live When I wake up every night crying to hear, That one little voice, that brings me to tears, You were not all mine, for so many loved you, But I hurt when you felt even on ounce of pain. One night of sickness, that horrible strain, Then the days we tried to save you, all in vain. You were as precious as a rose to me, You were my morning and night star. I cry when they say your name, I die inside when I think of your pain. You live inside me all the days, While I stand beside your grave, I think of you always at night As I gaze upon your empty cradle
