I am fairly new to the scene, my son was diagnosed December 4, 2012. I was a peer tutor in the special education class in my high school, my junior and senior year, which is where I learned so much. This is when I realized how much I enjoyed working with these special people. After high school (a couple years after) I worked with MHMR (mental health mental retardation) with teens and adults...it was my job to teach life skills and help them finds jobs. I have always had a sweet spot in my being for these sweet people. I was proud when people complimented me on the amount of patience I exhibited with these individuals...or when I was told on many occasions that God had a special plan for me to work with people like this and that it would change lives and make a difference! Well, I had no idea! I quit my job with MHMR upon being placed on bed rest during my first pregnancy. Planning to return some time in the future. Then I had my second child...Liam...and "God's plan" is now clear! God was preparing me for Liam! He was ensuring I'd have the skills needed to be the best mommy for Liam as possible....and I am! I plan to do my part in increasing awareness and acceptance as well as work with kids like my Liam...it is his plan, I just know it!
