I've always wanted to be a writer. My degree is in both written communications and Spanish. Somehow, I landed in graphic design and have been enjoying that for the past 10 years. Now I would like to add writing back into the mix. I've written a children's book and am hoping to self-publish as soon as I have some art to go with it. (It will also include a CD). I am writing a little bit for the local paper. It's nice to put words on paper again.
I'm also active with the Baobab Home--an orphanage founded in Tanzania by a dear friend of mine. More info at www.tzkids.org or www.myspace.com/baobabhome
After learning a lot about the tragic situation in Darfur I called the White House, sent letters to politicians, and have signed on with LifeNets to help spread the word. We asked everyone to simply answer three questions (answers generated a letter to each person's senator). I n October 2007, I went to DC with 3 other LifeNets members to lobby the Senate on behalf of Darfur and deliver the 10,000+ letters we collected. It was something WAY outside my comfort zone, but something I'm really proud of. We asked for a no-fly zone and for sponsorship of the Darfur Accountability and Divestment Act . The Act has since passed and is now a law. Yay! See? Your voice DOES make a difference.

I'm also very concerned about the health of our country--specifically, the amount of obesity we're seeing nowadays. I intend to improve my own level of fitness, set a good example for my son, and then branch out to help others establish healthier lifestyles.
For the past several years I have been incorporating more hemp products into my lifestyle: clothing, food (hemp seeds are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids), paper, twine, etc. For those who don't know, hemp is not a drug. It won't get you high. And it's an excellent, easily renewable source for so many things that we use every day!
