"Look at the Right Thing" Pt. 3

Covenant grace and peace be to you in the blessed name of Jesus!

Hebrews 12:2 tells us, "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith." In our lives, we may have situations that seem utterly impossible to overcome or get out of. Those situations may have been self-inflicted or caused by another person. Regardless of how bad it seems, you must keep your eyes on Jesus.  

In Numbers 21:1-9, we read of the account in which the children of Israel murmured against God and Moses because they hadn't entered into the Promised Land. Because of their complaining, fiery serpents were sent into the camp. Many people were bitten and died. After realizing their sin, the people came to Moses and repented. God gave Moses instructions to construct a brass serpent and place it on a pole. Then all those who looked at it would live.

Now picture this. We have a large congregation of people complaining to God about their circumstances and the person God placed in charge of them. Fiery serpents were loosed and people are being bit and dying all around. People were screaming in terror. Tents were being knocked over and caught fire because people were in such a panic. People were seeing their loved ones being bitten and dying. The livestock were running rampant and probably being bitten as well. In the midst of all the chaos, the Word of the Lord came to the people to take their focus off of the problem and to place it on the solution. In this case, the solution was looking at the fiery brass serpent that God told Moses to construct and place on a pole.

Understand that the serpents didn't automatically disappear. Some people had already been bitten or were on the verge of being bitten when the decree of God went forth. In that moment they had the choice to obey the Word of God, or they could reject the Word and be left to handle the situation in their own ability and strength (which would result in death). Can you imagine having fiery snakes surrounding you - maybe even one has bitten you - and now you have to turn your focus away from that thing which in the natural means certain death to the thing that God has decreed would be your way of deliverance?

Well beloved, that's exactly what we are experiencing today. It may not be a fiery serpent chasing you and your loved ones. It may be fiery bills, fiery bad relationships, fiery bad or unsatisfying job. It may be fiery words from family members, coworkers, etc. It may be fiery sickness and the doctors say there is no hope for you. Whatever the fiery situation is, the key is to take your eyes off of it and look to Jesus, your total source of supply.

Keep Great Grace on your mind throughout 2013 and beyond! Never EVER let it go!
