My parenting style: Breastfeeding (will probably let ds self-wean), baby-wearing (still do quite a bit), co-sleeping (we sleep much better with ds right there and will probably let ds wean himself off that, too), cloth diapering (though now I'm wishing I'd given EC a try). We haven't vaccinated ds and probably never will. I continue to do research and the more I learn, the more I'm shocked that the majority still does. Ideally I'd like to raise ds without coercion, punishments/rewards with the ideals of unconditional love and belief that he is a good, whole, social person in his heart. I see my primary responsibility as a parent is to bring his best qualities out and let them shine....and that alone will make the world a better place. I'm saddened by how much adversity I see & feel between parents and their children....it really doesn't have to be this way. But in our culture we're convinced that it's always us vs. them, even when talking about our own sweet children (or spouses even).
DH & I have been married for 10 years, together for 13. So we've a lot time pre-children to develop a 'groove' together, and time to process our own issues. I like to say that had I known how fun & amazing having a child could be, I would've done it sooner, but we probably wouldn't be enjoying it as much before now. Things happen for a reason!
Outside of marriage & family, my other love are animals. We have 2 dogs, 3 cats and 2 horses. The horses are all my thing - dh doesn't "get" them. For work I run a small pasture boarding facility 5 minutes from our house and I trim horse's feet - like a farrier, but I don't believe in shoeing. Having a child has complicated this work, but I also think it's pretty ideal. DS doesn't go to daycare - most days he comes with me and my clients play with him, or I have a couple of people I pay a little $$ to keep him company while I work. Now that he's getting older, I can work around his nap schedule so he sometimes sleeps while I work, or he's often content to play with his toys while I'm close by working. I love that he sees his mom working and he gets fresh air, sunshine (and soon rain!) and lots of dirt to play in (which of course he loves!).
Just stopping by to wish you a happy holiday season ~ may your days be merry & bright! Missing you... :o) Leticia
Honestly, I'm not even sure she IS a mother... I mean, she claims to be in premature labor and all that, but she has time to post stupid messages on Cafemom? I just don't buy it...
It is SO wonderful to see you posting in the Tribe :) I was going to join in on MB's glee but didn't want to completely hijack the thread :) Yay for Tauna being back!!! We'll try not to completely consume your time :)
