My perfect son, Nolan, was born with a Congenital Heart Defect called Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA). Doctor's were completely unaware of his condition. My husband and I didn't even know what a CHD was. You can read more about Nolan under the "my kids" tab on my profile.
Think it can't happen to you?
~1 in 100 babies are born with a CHD, the most common birth defect.
~CHDs kill more kids each year than all types of childhood cancers combined.
~10% of CHDs require surgery, but surgery is NEVER a cure.
~Only 10% of TGA cases are diagnosed in utero because they don't show up on your standard ultrasound. They only look at the 4 chambers of the heart to make sure they are okay...with TGA, the chambers are perfectly fine. It's the arteries that are switched.
