I'm a stay at home mom of two. I have a 4yr. old daughter, Dani Lee (Nini) and a 2 yr. old son Joseph (JoJo or Roo). I love to read, but I don't get much time to do it. ....the human papillomavirus (HPV). I had HPV, which causes cervical Cancer, luckily for me it was caught in time to be taken care of.I had the coloposcy done and the LEEP, and in Sept. I get to do it all over again. But no one should have to get that phone call, it's horrible, scary and mind boggling. That's the worst having someone you don't know tell you, you have "pre" cancerous cells. Your mind stops working and all you think about is that one word Cancer. So, Please have your girls vaccinated for this. If you have children 9 yrs. and over ask your dr. about it and for those of us with small children keep it in mind as they grow.Approximately 20 million people are currently infected with HPV. At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. By age 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired genital HPV infection. NO ONE IS IMMUNE!
If you've had sex or any kind of sexual contact with another person, you should ask your Dr. about the vaccine. Because you could have already been exposed. But the vaccine can protect you against other straines.According to the CDC, the only way you can totally protect yourself against HPV is to avoid any sexual activity that involves genital contact.
