The apostle Paul wrote more than half  of the New Testament while incarcerated, often in prison cells not much bigger than a small bathroom . Some historians and Bible commentators believe that the raw sewage of that day ran right through one of the dungeons in which he was imprisoned. Yet Paul wrote such amazing faith filled words as, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil.4:13).


And, “Thanks be to God, who always causes us to triumph,” and “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” (Phil 4:4) Notice that we are to rejoice and be happy at all times. In our difficulties, when things aren’t going our way, we need to make a decision to stay full of joy.


We need to understand that the enemy is not really after our dreams, our health, or our finances.  He’s not primarily after our families.  He’s after our joy.The Bible says that “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Neh. 8:10), and our enemy knows that if he can deceive us into living down in the dumps and depressed, then we are not going to have the necessary strength - physically, emotionally, or spiritually – to withstand his attacks.


When we rejoice in the midst of our difficulties, we’re giving the enemy a black eye. He doesn’t know what to do with people who keep giving God praise despite their circumstances. Let’s make the choice today to enjoy our life and live it to its fullest.
