We moved to Colorado in the fall of 1994. Within a month or so, I discovered that I was pregnant. We had a stressful pregnancy following an elevated AFP II test. Our son was born with a rare birth defect called Partial Corpus Callosum. We received the diagnosis when I was five or five and a half months pregnant.

He was slow to walk, talk and milestones were all delayed. He needed much support and therapy to close most of the gaps. He's always been on an IEP and receives special services in reading, writing and math.

It has all worked out, but it was trying and difficult at times. Our son has brought us untold joy and happiness. He's closed most of the gaps and he's in middle school.

School is getting harder. Time is becoming an enemy. I'm beginning to question whether he's getting enough support and whether we're doing enough. I'm thinking we have to step things up and/or become more creative in better preparing our child for adulthood.

I'm opinionated, liberal, compassionate and I care deeply about giving every child every opportunity to be their best. My primary focus is my family and volunteering at my local elementary school. I'm an advocate for kids and I regularly fight for them where I feel attention and support is necessary.

At times, I'm a feisty broad.
