  • Personal Statement

I am like a Timex watch in the old 60s commercials - I "take a lickin' and keep on tickin'." I have had many challenges in my life - a few of them the result of bad decisions on my part (two failed marriages)and the rest through circumstances beyond my control (loss of son at birth, job layoffs, etc.) - but I have always liked the saying: "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." I started working to help my family put food on the table and a roof over our heads when I was 11 years old. I used to get up at midnight and go with my father to deliver newspapers to paper boxes and stores, getting home just in time to shower and leave for school in the morning. I didn't stop working until five years ago when I was pregnant with my now 5yo son and the company I was working for folded and let everyone go. I didn't realize it at the time but evidently God decided that if I was too silly to slow down, He would HELP me do it! I have been able to stay home with my son and am now healthier than I ever was during the "burn the candle at both ends" years!! We moved out to the country so I could grow a big vegetable garden and so that my son and our dogs and cats could have plenty of room to run and roam. I have missed the interaction with grownups but I get some of that from church. Now, I have joined ClubMom and the MomNetwork to make new friends and I am looking forward to it! I actually feel like I was given the chance to finally be the child for a while and let someone else take care of me for a change and I have enjoyed being home playing with my son. He starts school in the fall. I know he will be learning new things and will come home bubbling over with things to tell me. My daughter is 21 and now lives away from home. She has a great job and loves her little house and I am very proud of her. My husband is a librarian and has a wonderful family in New York who we visit at least twice a year - once in summer and at Christmas. Life is good!
