  • Personal Statement

We are the parents of two beautiful children.  Our first child (boy) was born in a birthing center.  Our second (girl) was born at home.  Both births were attended by midwives.

When we found out we were going to have a baby, we were filled with several emotions...joy, excitement, and delight came first but as time went on fear, anxiety, and uncertainty started to creep in.

We had no idea what we were doing and from what we had heard from other parents or what we saw in the movies and on the tv we were confused and even more terrified

We signed up for a Bradley Method ® Childbirth Education class and it completely changed our outlook on having a baby. By the end of the class, the fear and uncertainty was all but eliminated.  We learned and practiced so much that we not only felt prepared, but we felt confident that we could handle anything that would come up.

When our son was born we were ecstatic about how much we actually learned and how well the techniques worked which made our experience smooth and very pleasant.

When we shared our experiences with others, they thought we were crazy for having the
baby naturally and when I said that
the contractions weren't that bad no one
    believed me.

Sadly we learned that our beautiful experience was not how most people remember having a baby, and that labor and birth is traumatic for many mothers
and fathers. We then felt compelled to help as many families have the beautiful birthing experience that we had.
