Commentary: GOP shouldn't knock community organizers - CNN.com

cnn.com - So when Rudy Giuliani and Palin mock community organizers, they don't just toss a barb at Sen. Barack Obama, they demean Reginald and Emelda Martin. They degrade the women who fought for their rights. They disrespect the labor activists and immigrant worker activists like Cesar Chavez.

They dismiss those in the civil rights movement -- folks from small town America who were sick and tired of being sick and tired. They thumb their noses at the Nelson Mandelas of the world who want a better life for their children.

It would have been perfectly fine for Giuliani and Palin to say that Obama's community organizing days didn't amount to enough experience to be president.

But when you openly laugh and mock those hard-working Americans who are in the trenches every day, then you really don't care about "Country First" or service.

There was such a different tone to the Republican convention and Democratic convention.

i know that really pissed me off!!!  community organizers help reform great nations.  for her to make the comment she did she was demeaning the work of many american citizens.  i thought it was pathetic she stooped so low.

There definitely was a much more unifying, accepting tone to the Democratic Convention. The Republican party... in true post Dubya, Kreep Rove fasion, behaved like petty, condescending, immature 12 yr olds (my apologies to 12 yr olds everywhere) Wouldn't it be great to see those community organizers organize a massive voter response to the mocking and belittling? ;-)

YES! I watched both and there was so much negativity mocking and belittling, just as you say. I felt like I was watching football bullies make fun of band geeks. (I'm SO sorry to insult band players and football players, I love them all, we're going to watch a game tonight with the kids. GO MUSTANGS)

Repugs are now saying that they were not mocking these types of volunteers. I laughed my ass of last night when I watched the Colbert Report. They did a whole bit on him laughing at Obama. I will never respect Giuliani again and he, in the beginning had a fair shot at getting my vote. I think he lost a lot of people with that.

They weren't mocking community organizers. They were mocking Obama's claiming that as experience while belittling Sarah Palin as a Mayor. The question still remains, what did Obama accomplish as a community organizer, who did he lead? The point they were making is that mark on his resume shows no executive leadership. That's what she meant when she said a being a mayor is like being a community organizor with responsibility. If a community organizor doesn't accomplish a goal, there are no real consequences but as a mayor there are. Had the Obama camp not brought up her experience as a mayor then she wouldn't have had to respond to it.
