One of the persistent memes in the Republican line of attack against Barack Obama is the notion that he is an elitist, whereas the G.O.P. represent real working Americans like Levi “F-in’ Redneck” Johnston.
It caught our attention, then, when First Lady Laura Bush and would-be First Lady Cindy McCain took the stage Tuesday night wearing some rather fancy designer clothes. So we asked our fashion department to price out their outfits.
Laura Bush
Oscar de la Renta suit: $2,500
Stuart Weitzman heels: $325
Pearl stud earrings: $600–$1,500
Total: Between $3,425 and $4,325
Cindy McCain
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000
Shoes, designer unknown: $600
T
Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100
Wow! No wonder McCain has so many houses: his wife has the price of a Scottsdale split-level hanging from her ears.
Hey McCain, why don't you donate those 3-carat diamond earrings of your wife's to buy a few houses for the working class citizens.
lol great article!
Nothing like showing the American people what dripping with dough looks like.
i can not begin to relate to that!!
the mccains really are just like the rest of us, huh?
I love they estimate the price of Cindy's shoes at $600 and they don't even know who the designers are. I also love that the article says other than two pieces, these are assumptions about what they are wearing and the prices are estimates. Translation, this is BS.
Oh, Pleeease..
Obama showed up at Bon jovi's house last night. The dinner plates went for $300,000 a person. I can't imagine what on earth they could have been serving other than "SHIT ON A STICK"....LMAO
At least Cindy can wear her outfit again....![]()

These estimates were made by people who know fashion. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're NOT a fashion expert, but why don't you go ahead and tell me how much YOU think her outfits costed? Or if you don't feel up to that, maybe you can at least tell us if you think she looks like she can relate to the American people and understands our issues which I think was the point of this article!?
Yes, lets give the rich MORE tax breaks....could these people be anymore self serving??
