Disney's 'subservient' black princess animates film critics - News, Film & TV - The Independent

independent.co.uk - The first black Disney princess FINALLY, and they have to go back to the drawing board, because of "racial stereotyping"....I honestly can't wait to see what the outcome of this movie will be. I'm a huge Disney fan!

I have always thought "Walt" was racist. And the first write up of this new movie I did find some what offensive. The girls charter had to be working for some one? I am white and I got to tell you, I am tickled they are making a movie with an AA main character, it is about time and I hope they do her justice.

    Damn !
It has taken them for ever to come up with a African American Princess. It seems to me that they didn't put as much though into the story as the other Disney Princess because they are still at it( I first heard that Disney was planning on making a movie about a African American Princess last year). I can't wait to see this movie. I am still not impresses with the plot to this story. May be by the time the finish the film it will be a tribute to us( the African American population).
I love Disney Movies and hope that this one will also be a success.

I agree! As a kid I always wanted a Disney Princess that could somehow relate to. The only Princess that I could relate to was Princess Jasmine!! I'm a little annoyed that it took them this long to come out with an African American princess and I do agree the plot should be better, but we shall see what happens!

I dont get it. I mean most of the other princesses, had to hide out and be maids for the most part. Lets see, CINDERella maid, Sleeping Beauty, hid out. Hell Snow White took care of SEVEN MEN!!!!!! I am mixed race and have been ostracized from both sides but I never let it get to me. When will we teach our children that a cartoon is just that, a cartoon drawing!!!!! People need to stop making big deals about little things and get thicker skins. Are we raising our children to sue over the littlest name calling or have someone fired for WORDS they used???? I teach my children to ignore mean words, thats all they are. I mean come on people, Sticks and stones!!!!

People,no matter what the race will always find something to complain about. It IS about time for them to make a movie with a black princess, and I am glad that they are. But I think the significance of it is being overshadowed by the issues that people are trying to make out of it.

people need to stop taking things to personally...i cant hardly stand when people make a certain race the victim....every race has had to deal with horrible things done to them. we are all god's people, we all face cruelty from people who are different. Just because the color of you skin or where you are from are different isnt a reason to be treated differently, pampered or otherwise.just my opinon
