I know all of my Cafe Mom friends must have thought I had left the country or perhaps been abducted by aliens or something. It has been quite some time since I've been here, to all of my friends - I'm sorry. Between my youngest son's graduation, my work schedules, the promotion of my book and trying to get the second book gone to the publisher - I have been swamped!!
All is well here with me and I sincerely hope that everything is going great for all of you.

In all of my years from semi-adult until now I must admit I have worked many jobs. From the waitress to the boss, from the factory to the Avon lady, from the housekeeping service to the business owner. I have been the sports editor at a newspaper, I am a photographer and I had my first novel published last September. But in all of those years and the different jobs; the hardest position I've ever held and the largest hat I've ever worn has the word "Mom" stamped across the front of it.. It started in 1975 when I gave...

I had the daunting task of shopping for a swimsuit today and during the adventure I made several conclusions.1. It's not fun anymore.2. With gas at $3.50 a gallon, it is no longer cost-effective to look at every store until you are so disappointed with the way they all fit that you simply buy one to be finished.3. Most department stores do not stock them "age-appropriate." ( you know, the racks are full of those extremely bright colors of barely more than strips of material that would hardly be enough to cover the skin of a ten year-old. And they...

I think I'm just like most people - Sometimes I get a little stressed by all of the deadlines. But they are everywhere. You have to pay your electric bill by a certain date or you are charged a late fee. To me, that's a deadline. Those important pieces of mail we receive which read "reply by this date," another deadline. The doctor and dentist appointments, meetings, book signings, birthday parties and on and on it goes...deadlines.Personally, I have been on the road shooting pictures for more than a month and now all of those pictures have to...

After a crazy few weeks it will be nice to be mostly at home this week. I'll be working a lot, but it will be from my "home office" and that will be nice. A few of us Loudon County Moms had a dinner-out together on Saturday and I really enjoyed myself, the change of pace was good.Hopefully, my new book will make some progress this week, I'm getting very anxious to see it in print. Meanwhile On a Rainy Day continued to surprise me ( two more emails today from readers who loved the book). I got to spend a couple of days at college with my youngest son...

"Spring Fever." As a child I thought it was an illness, or so it seemed like one when my mother would scold me for putting on my shorts or wearing my sandals at the first hint of a warm day. In her opinion, it was "rushing the season" if you wore any summer attire before May 1. Now, I understand what she meant and I still "rush the season or suffer from "Spring Fever." When that first yellow Easter Flower (jonquil) blooms, I'm ready to pack up the winter clothes and start thinking about vacations and backyard BBQs. My drab...

So many times in the last few months I have just been BLAH for days, an emotion so unlike me. But as usual, the events of each day found me feeling more and more like myself but with a few minor differences. It seems that at this point in my lifetime I have more time to think (a somewhat dangerous situation), and I find that I want to accomplish so many things. Thinking can be a bad thing when you have a mind like mine that works constantly looking for something to do. So I have begun to coaxed myself to take "down-time." Time to do...
