Our anticipation grew, well, mine did anyway, to once again drive down the street in Savannah that held not one, but two malls, a Michael's, an AC Moore, Best Buy...well, you get the idea.

We currently live in a small town. People from here consider it a big town. There are people who remember when there were no traffic signals, no mall, no WalMart and the KMart was open. It's growing in leaps and bounds for them. The traffic is horrible and they just don't know what's going to come of their town.

For us, it's a small town where the only place to shop is 'the' WalMart. The mall is miniature. If you have an extra 20 minutes to kill, stroll through the mall. We have a Winn-Dixie and a Publix grocery store, but if you're watching your pennies, you grit your teeth, but on your battle gear and go to 'the' WalMart.

Being from a much larger city for most of my life, you can imagine the joy we felt as we discovered that modern miracle of shop after shop, familiar store names being shouted out as we spotted them, and still not able to take it all in before the light turned green and horns start honking behind us.

"Look at the license plate! We're tourists!"

On our previous jaunt to Savannah we strolled through one mall, so we decided to cruise down to the other mall and check it out. Being Sunday and the mall would be closing soon, our back up plan was to hit the Target.

"Wow, Mom! It's a regular town!" Dayna remarks as we crawl through traffic. "Dad has ton's of new billboards to read to you!"

Yup, Bill loves to read signs. The sad thing is that over the years it's caught on with all of us and we'll spontaneously break out in sign reading, sometimes adding a little commentary along with it.

We spot a store that requires a u-turn. Movie Stop! This is a great store. The only other one I've seen is in Orlando where Dayna spends what money she has left every month on movies. They trade in old DVD's and you can buy used movies really cheap. They also have new DVD's, but why?

We spent quite a bit of time browsing this store. For any movie buff who can't afford to go to the theatre, this is a great place!

From there we strolled over to a store a few doors down, of which the name escapes me. In my excitement, I just did not retain a thing.

Anyway!

This store is chock full of things for the home at discount prices. Sort of like a Stein Mart or a Tuesday Morning...but not.

We browsed, and oogled and picked through just about everything in the store. I found some things I'd love to get to put in my new kitchen and Mary found some great girly things she'd like for her room. Dayna browsed through the lamps and found one she loved, but the shade was broken. Oops!

We noticed the time and it was well past time to make it to the mall and after wandering through every aisle of that store we decided to forego Target, much to Mary's dismay. I promised her a trip there as soon as we moved up to Savannah. This seems to comfort her for the moment.

At this point we were all thinking about dinner.

We headed back to the Interstate, waving goodbye to the malls, shops and dining establishments, promising a return soon. For now we had to return to Florida. Our spirits sank. Not only was the drive home not going to be so much fun, I also had to drive Dayna back to Orlando tomorrow morning!

Mary popped on her headphones and Dayna popped a CD into the player. Thank God for headphones, because the CD she put in is not for children.

Dayna loves Dane Cook. He's a raunchy, foul mouthed comedian who just busts me up! It's not something I would listen to normally, but to sit and listen to him with Dayna is just too funny!  If you decide to check him out, shoo the kids out of the room, prepare to hear the 'F' bomb a lot and be careful if you have a drink, because you will be spewing your beverage across the room.

One note of warning, though, it is not advisable to listen while driving down the interstate, in the dark, during road construction with semi-trucks whizzing past. We almost had to test out our insurance company.

We stopped just before we entered Florida at a fast food place for some really crappy (thank you very much) take out food for dinner. My burger ended up on the highway. It was gross. Let the birds have it. The only thing that made up for the bad food and really bad service was the fact that the woman who rang us up failed to put the '1' at the beginning of the credit card charge and the fabulous meal cost us  thirty four cents.

(to be continued... later today, cuz the computer is being dismantled tomorrow!)

Feb. 27, 2008 at 10:05 PM Oh, I am looking forward to spring and the greenery and flowers to go with it! We're hoping, also, that the ocean breeze will help blow away the spring pollen and our allergies won't be so bad there!
