Im heading North!!! Anyhow I don't know what holiday weekend you're celebrating in the Us but I hope you all have a great one..

Well are heading North , my hubbys boss is holding an elaborate wedding for his youngest son in Achziv and seeing as its close to my hubbys Uncles Kibbutz, we organised for my 5 yr old twin girls to be entertained and entertain hubbys Uncle and Aunt..

Luckily they said they have a spare mattress so we're welcome to sleep on their floor.  Anyhow Im looking forward to spending a great dinner on Kibbutz , show the twins the life of a farmer, maybe even check out the seaweed factory they have there and swim in the pool if we don't see the Rosh Hanikra grottos.. If we are lucky we may even go to beach or swimming pool  or even go to the lookout to check out Lebanon! Then on Saturday we'll tour the country side to head homeward..

This weekend we celebrate Lag Baomer, but we've been celebrating all week with the childrens Bonfires, singing and eating baked potatoes and marshmellows and having a great time out doors on these warm Spring nights.

Lucky I have a 9 yr old son to remind me all about the Romans and Bar Cochva..

Many yrs ago when the Roman Empire ruled the area the Romans came to what is known to day as Israel and set down the law.   They decided to forbid the studyiny or teaching of the Bible and as a result a revolt ensued.

Shimon Bar Yochai hid in a cave near Zfat, in Pkeiin and decided that he would secretly hold Bible lessons for his followers against the Roman Decrees.  His students would dress up as hunters (just like Robin Hood) and would be holding bows and arrows en route to the Cave.

Shimon Bar Yochai and his son survived by drinking water and eating Carobs from the CarobTree which until today stands by the cave... The romans never discovered this secret hideaway and the students would continue to study the Bible in Secret..

During the same time a man called  Bar Kochva decided to put an end to the Roman Ban and refused to abide by the Roman Law and he decided to start a revolt much to the amazement of the Romans whom managed to jail him.  He was gaoled with a Lion whom he befriended and together they broke out of gaol to lead one of the most heroic revolts against the Romans riding his new pal the Lion to victory.  The Roman decree against the study of the the Bible was abolished and as a result the victory was sweet.   The hill tops all had bonfires which symoblised the victory of the Jewish people , the people of the Book over the Roman Empire.

And to this day Lag Baomer is celebrated by children throughout the country by roasting marshmellows, singing songs and dancing around bonfires in honour of Bar Kochva a hero to our nation, whom once again study the bible and learn together all in the name of community spirit!

And to all my fellow friends, I wish you a wonderful weekend and an enjoyable Lag Bomer!!

Better go I've got a wedding to prepare for!!
