I received some messages in my cafemom absence on fitness and nutrition. I'm not a fitness guru or a nutrition know-it-all. I simply love to run and I love food, good old normal non-diet foods!! I HATE DIETS, THEY SUCK, DON'T DO IT!!! Statistically speaking, people who diet will eventually put the weight back on, unless you're a freak of nature who can keep it off forever...please tell us your secrets!! Anyway, I never experienced a weight issue until 2001. Prior to that I was always thin and in good shape.

My story is unique, just as is everyone elses. It wasn't a miracle, just a desire to feel better about myself. Since this post, I have run 1- 5K, 1-15K, 2 Half Marathons, and I'm a member of the Army 10-miler Team on Fort Lee. The Marathon I wanted to run last year was put on hold for the Army, but it will come in time.

Without further interruption, here is the story of a former temporary fat ass, with a dream....a dream to not have a fat ass. Enjoy.

This is a blog from my myspace page and something I posted in one of my groups, I wanted to share it with all of you!!

I want to tell you that it's kind of difficult for me to post this cause the pictures are rather embarrassing, but I'm hoping I can inspire those of you who don't know about the weight issue I had a couple of years ago.

So here is a brief overview of my awkward "fat stage" and how I overcame it! Nothing is impossible when you set realistic goals for yourself and are determined to accomplish them no matter what everyone around you thinks!!

First I want to tell you, I wasn't always overweight, I was one of the lucky ones who could put away an entire bag of dorritos and not gain a thing. Then along came the Marine Corps and MCT with your 3000 calorie MRE's 3 times a day and I put on about 15lbs.( I was about 130 when I joined the Corps). I lost 10 when I got to my basic school but kept the other 5. Then my once good runs started sucking and I started to fear them. That's when the trouble started!!  For those of you who didn't know, I had 4 miscarriages before I had my son. This imbalance of hormones can really mess with your weight!! I then went through infertility treatment and gained 20lbs thanks to being completely devoid of hormones all together prior to a surgery I had. By the grace of God, and the birth control patch, I got pregnant with my son in the summer of 2003.

This was me at abut 4months with my son Ethan and this was chunky for me. I was about 160 in this pic.

This is me the day I had Ethan at 208 (This weight was not due to 17 pints of Ben and Jerry's everyday, I had Preeclampsia and Toxemia)

..

This is me just before getting deployed to Iraq, very embarrassing so this is difficult for me to post!!! 180lbs. I hate this picture!!!!

..

This is midway through my deployment  at 160

..

And this is me post deployment and post active duty at 135

..
The weight loss was due to my new found love of running. When I first started out, I was only running about a mile and a half, I gradually worked my way up and by the end of the deployment I was running 6-7miles a day! (Thanks for mapping that for me Roxanne!!)
I kept running when I got out of the Corps and was set to run my first half marathon and then I found out I was pregnant with Lucy. I ran throughout the entire pregnancy and kept doing my aerobics and ab work. I bounced right back after the pregnancy and I'm happy to say that I'm back to my teenage weight and shape!!

9months pregnant with Lucy at 150

..

And this is yours truly 6 months post-partum at 128.

..

So there you go, with a little bit of hard work, setting goals one at a time and believing in yourself, you can accomplish what you want, and then some!!
And for those of you who didn't know from my previous blogs, I ran that half marathon last week. I'll be running my first 15K this Sunday and I'm hoping to catch the Marine Corps Marathon in October unless I achieve another life goal, which I'll divulge only after I've received proper notification!! Keep your fingers crossed!!

But regardless of what society's definition of beauty is, we are all beautiful because God created us with the ability to produce life and that to me is worth every pound and stretchmark!! Love yourself first no matter what you see in the mirror and the rest will come in time!!
I hope this accurately portrays how you can achieve goals, this coming from someone who has been on both sides of the spectrum. It wasn't easy, but I had a lot of encouragement from some great friends and God!
Stay on the path, but make sure to get a good pair of running shoes cause it's not always flat!!
