I was born and grew up in Dresden, Germany. I liked my hometown a lot and I still do so. But I wouldn't go back. With 25, I moved from Dresden to a small town near Frankfurt (approx. 400 km from home). I didn't like Frankfurt much, but at least the area where I lived was nice and green. But I couldn't get used to the lifestyle there. So at some stage, I would have moved back or on ...
The second I did actually 2 1/2 years later. But then I moved to a different country and probably the one that's the furthest away from my hometown - to New Zealand. First we lived in Wellington, now we live near Auckland. I like the Kiwis and their relaxed and easy-going lifestyle very much. It reminds me often of "the good, old times" in Dresden. I've been back last year to visit friends and family, but Germany has changed so much and truly not to the best. So no, I wouldn't move back. But Auckland is a bit too busy and big for me, so I will probably retire in Wellington or another part of New Zealand.
