Is there anyone else out there who has an infant with acid reflux?  My son is 2 months old and taking Zantac for this condition.  He is kept in a vertical postion as much as possible.  Which usually means  my husband or I need to be holding him even when he is sleeping.  We have propt up one end of his crib and he's still crying for us to hold him.  sometimes he grunts and twists for almost 2 hours after eating and taking the Zantac.  The doctor says deal with it the same way we've been.....they can't give him any thing else and most babies usually grow out of it.  Well, that's nice but.......It's not enough to help us right now.  My husband and I both work full time and we all need sleep.  Day care keeps him vertical as much as possible during the day.  It seems like we've tried every trick in the book.....any suggestions?

Jun. 1, 2008 at 4:35 PM My oldest son has had reflux all his life. I well remember those days. I got him a walker and wraped receiving blankets around him to keep him propt up. Try thicking his milk with rice cereal, it helps it stay down and also helps them to sleep longer, just becarefull not to over feed. I let my son sleep with me do to his severe night terrors and this way he stayed on my shoulder which raised him just right.

We have him on Enfamil A.R. that has rice in it.  My husband often sleeps with his on his chest as well.  I'm afraid I will roll over on him so I usually don't get that much sleep.  I will look for the herbal medication though.

Thank you,

my son is 7 months and was diagnosed w reflux at  2 months. he is on prevacid soluable tablets. he is also on soy formula.... we saw a world of a diff w the meds and soy... he is a spitter - but a happy spitter.. we go though about 4 outfits a day.. and bibs... i normally lose count. that's how much he spits up.

i actually made an appt w the pediatric gi today.. we go next week. he just spits excessively and i'm concerned... but he is gaining.. he is nearly 19 lbs.. he's HUGE! so nutrician isn't a concern.. i just wanna make sure it is ok for him to be spitting up so much. i feel so bad for him..

if i were u.. i'd go see a specialist...i kinda wish iwent sooner...

i have a 5 week old and he was just diagnosed with reflux. It is really difficult! I hold him all the time. He is only happy when he is sleeping on my chest. My husband propped up his basinet a couple nights ago so we swaddle him and let him sleep on an incline- but that only works from 10pm to 5:30am (dont get the wrong impression- he doesnt sleep through the night).

Ped gave us Zantac 2 days ago. I am not sure it is helping. I am breastfeeding exclusively so I cant try the formula options yet- I want to get to at least 3 months before i stop breastfeeding.

Right now he is in the baby b jorn- it works sometimes so I can have free hands to get some things done.
