"SO, tell me what you REALLY think!!!"

This is just a VERY SHORT and SUMMED-UP update!

To all who have been praying for me and my baby through this whole battle with Blastomycosis I want to give you all a huge HUG and say "THANK YOU"!

I was admitted to the hospital  to try another round of the AMPHOTERICIN B Drug under controlled circumstances. They tried to pre-medicate me with hydrocort and benadryl before the gave me this drug in my IV line. Just to sum up I had another reaction to this drug, and it was so scary. I am without a doubt allergic to that medication!

We had to choose another route to take to treat this and it is NOT as safe to the baby as the Amphotericin B (pregnancy class B) would have been. We now have a limited options. The doctor and us are in agreement to work with a very  high dose of Fluconazole (pregnancy class C) to keep this at bay until the baby comes and then we will be switching over to the Itraconazole pills "the big guns - so to speak". This decision was made after a lengthy talk with the High-Risk  Pregnancy doctor at the hospital about all the risk associated with the drug.

NOT treating this is NOT an option! And to take the baby early was NOT a good idea either! He would be a premie and already have to fight but if he has already contracted this thru the placenta then he will have to fight even harder and that is too hard of a battle for a premie. He still has to be monitered for 3 weeks afterwords to make sure he did or did not get this Blastomycosis.

So we were released with this new drug to try. We are praying this drug helps with this! So far no reactions at all, which is a positive sign. I am NOT done with this battle yet! After baby I still have to have 6-12 months of treatment with the other pills and a full body scan to make sure we got it all or it can come back again!

If anyone wants a more detailed account of my time in the hospital let me know it is very long and right now I am still recovering from the second shock to my body less than a week and I am exhausted!

Thank you again for all of your prayers so far and please continue the prayers we're still fighting this! We'll beat this we just need to have strength and keep positive!

BLASTOMYCOSIS - is a fungal infection caused by a organisim. It can be found in rotting wood, near rivers or streams, in contaminated soil, etc. It is caught by breathing in spores from it (can happen just from a walk in the woods, a hike gardening, or simply raking leaves...etc. we don't know how exactly I got this) and it usually starts in the lungs and can move to skin(which is where mine has mainly showed up-but we are NOT sure without a full body scan which can not happen until I have my baby! ), muscle, joints, brain, and even bone! This is what the doctor's have told me! It can disseminate! Which means it can move to some OR all of these locations!

This can be deadly to immunocomprimised people (examples are people with AIDS, the elderly, Pregnant women in there 3rd Trimester(and CAN pass to the baby through the placenta),etc) It is hard to diagnois because it mimics alot of other things such as pnuemonia, lung disease, etc. just to name a few!

The doctor said that is rare, but to have it while pregnant is extremely rare. The high risk pregnancy doctor  told us at the hospital of another doctor who wrote an article and in the Mississippi river area alone over two decades (20 years time) there has only been three cases of it found in pregnant women! They all said I am a rare commodity! There is soo much information we were given on this! I could keep going on and on but I am sure you get the point. It is normally treated with pills but because I am pregnant it makes things more complicated (as to what to use to treat this).
