I live with a 7 yr old boy who thinks that all of his toys should be where he can see them!  I have an 8 yr old daughter who use to help out but she has become as lazy as her brother and  a cain terrier.  I do not have the money for new paint or carpet right now but I am fired up about getting it done.  I have never had the spotless house like my best friend and even when I do clean I am still not pleased with the results.  I live in a house full of toys, toys and more toys and dust!

Please help me to get started!  Are their other moms like me?

I would start with the toys. Clear out any old or unused toys. Throw them away or give them away. It may be easier when the kids are not home so you don't have to fuss and fight with what goes and what stays.

I would take one room at a time. Take a full day or more if you need it for each room. I just start with the base boards cleaning them with a light cleaner and water and work my way up from there. I don't look at the whole house, just the one room and go for it!

If you have a carpet cleaner then make sure to clean all the carpets.

Once you get the house de-cluttered and cleaned I would set some strict rules for the kidos about cleaning up after themselves!

I think I'm going to pull the old carpet up and get some nice area rugs.  I just worry about the dust (we live right by the freeway and it is really bad).  I am just so sick of living in this mess.  I wish I had the money for paint and could get rid of those darn popcorn ceilings.

This is going to be interesting, I have to fight with my son to throw away a box his spiderman toy came in.

LOL It's all okay! Like I said.....wait till they are gone and start getting stuff out! If they can't keep it picked up, it goes bye bye!

I would check under the carpet first before you pull it up. You never know if there's a bigger mess waiting for you!  Area rugs are great! Hopefully, you can pull up the old carpet and put down area rugs. Have you ever seen the "blocks" of carpet? It's kind of like a "peel and stick" type carpet. I know it sounds crazy but I see ppl use these all the time on "home make over" shows. It's not as expensive and really easy to put down! You might check on it.

I would take a wash rag and some soap and water and just wash the walls down. I think you will notice a difference. You might not can afford paint but just cleaning the walls will  help. You can also go to like Home Depot, or Lowes and in the paint area is normally cans of paint someone wanted mixed but didn't like so they bring back. They normally sell them really really cheap because they are custome colors that someone else had mixed but brought back.

Small changes can make a big impact. Start with the small stuff!
