My name, Donna, is Italian for "lady".

But even more important, I was named for my grandmother.  See, I was to be named Jennifer but while my mom was in labor my father said if anyone ever called me Jenny he would kill them.  In the 70's, it was almost a given that you'd be called Jenny if you were a Jennifer so they had to come up with a different name real quick.

20 years later when I was pregnant with my own child and chose the name Shealynn for her since it is Gaelic for "from the fairy fort" and all I dreamt of during that pregnancy were fairies.  Her middle name is my grandmother's middle name, Pauline.

My second daughter is named Ella, both because it is Gaelic for "elven" (keeping with the Gaelic theme) and in honor of the late, great Ella Fitzgerald.  Her middle name is Marley.  Yes, for Bob.  No, I do not smoke pot.

Ok, here's the scoop on my name.  My fake name, Ricki, is a feminine for of Richard, which is Germanic and mean "brave, powerful ruler."  My real name, Amy, is French and means "beloved."  My middle name, Richelle, is also tied to Richard.  So I guess I am the beloved queen of my household.

Bailey's name is from Middle English and means "baliff."  And of course, Rose means "rose."  Duh.
