My name's Jane... I guess that's like one of the most common English names ever. There's even a phrase with it, 'plain Jane'!  My dad claims it is the feminine of 'John' from 'John the Baptist' of the Bible.

'Pauline' is supposed to be feminine of 'Paul'. Also the phrase 'Pauline Letters' meaning letters written by Apostle Paul.

Story goes that my dad wanted me to be a boy, even picked out a name in advance - Jean Paul. I turned out to be a girl, so he just went for the feminine gender of it - Jane Pauline !

My Grandmom's name was Poorna, so my dad added that to my name - Jane Pauline Poorna.

I hated that name and the lady who first bore it - my husband came along and I gladly switched to 'Jane Pauline Hamilton. Now I sound really snazzy and am named after a famous author. How cool is that!

Jun. 2, 2008 at 1:57 AM I gave my oldest daughter the middle name Pauline, after my grandmother.  I think it's a great name!
