Jana is rather uncommon in english-speaking country. One of the reason probably is that it is pronounced YAH-na.

Jana is a Czech nickname version of the female form of John. It is originally Hebrew and means God is gracious. (Is He? If he exists, I think so ...)

Interestingly, Sean is also a version of John, means my lil one and I carry the same name - but's pure coincidence - we had a list of about 10 names for him and we found he looks most like a Sean ... lol

Praise to Our Father!!  Yes he is full of grace.

Also, YAH is a sacred name of His....from YHVH---I believe to be pronounced YahHaVah in Hebrew.

That is awesome that in the Hebrew toungue you have the Creator of this Universes' name within it.

Jun. 2, 2008 at 6:46 AM My favorite neighbor just moved :( but her name was Jana too. I had never heard it before her. I think it's a great name. Her hubby was the only one who pronounced it right though, but that made it sweet. and without a doubt, He is gracious!
