~Walking the thin line of sanity~

Okay….lets start with the holiday weekend. I worked Sat, but the weather was PERFECT. So we had a big jam/party on Sunday afternoon, spilling into Sunday night. Tons of fun, lots of food, only one pissy neighbor, who decided to drive, LITERALLY across the street to yell at us to shut up, and in the process, side swiped our friends car parked on the road in front of the house. WTF…but not that big a deal. We decided to do the acoustic thing by the campfire the rest of the night. Woke up Monday morning to a crumpled silver mass in my driveway, what used to be a brand new, turbo charged Grey Ford Mustang. Our friends apparently only made it 1 mile of their 2 miles to their house from ours, and smashed it into the ditch…..not wanting the cops to come, they dragged it with a pickup back to our house. Thank goodness they were all okay, but goes to show why fast cars and alcohol DO NOT MIX. Everyone else stayed at our house, as I prefer, but they insisted on going home, as they live literally 2 miles from us….. Monday we all laid around by the firepit in the backyard and just chillaxed.

Tuesday Corcoran and I met up with Bettie (NorahSethsMommy) and her kids, Norah & Seth at the Frederick Meijer Children's Gardens. It was chilly, but it was a lot of fun getting the kids together. I'll post some pics later.

One Weds I got up early and drove about 650 miles or so to Middle Tennessee, a place called Calioca (SP?). I stayed the night there with my aunt and uncle, as it was evening when we arrived. That night, Corcoran came down with Pharyngitis, having a really high fever and earache and sore throat. So, in the morning, not knowing it was anything more than an ear infection, I packed him up, and drove 2 1/2 hours thru the most beautiful hills (they looked like mountains to me!) West to Jackson where my dad lives.

Had to take Corcoran to the clinic where we found out what he had, and had to keep him away from Dad the whole trip, which really sucked, but we couldn't risk him getting sick. All in all, dad is doing great. He's go, go, go. His numbers look good, considering, and he feels pretty good. He can't sleep much, only about 4-5 hours a night, and has some sores in his mouth, and occasionaly stomach pain, but nothing that keeps him down.

We threw him a big 51st b-day/retirement party on Saturday. About 60 people or so were there. It was great. I loved helping with all the women in the kitchen cooking up a storm and chit chatting. It was fun to see my "hill-billy" relatives. Corcoran thouroughly enjoyed playing with all his little cousins;o)

I am really glad to be back home though, I tend to always feel like the "black sheep" around my family. My dad has become REALLY religious. He used to be one that would get angry when anyone brought up religion, now he's practically a preacher, kinda drives me nuts. I don't like feeling judged. No one drinks, not at all. Cora used to be a wine drinker, but not now. No one has tattoos, for the most part, though dad has one on his arm.

I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived home to a SPOTLESS house! Even the laundry was caught up and folded, clean sheets on my bed, bathroom scrubbed, dishes done! It was soooo nice, I thanked them each about 3 times;o)

Wow….that was long, hee hee

Jun. 2, 2008 at 9:36 AM Sounds like fun times. So, have you got rid of your tickets yet?  I may have found someone who is interested. I will have to ask them. Glad your dad is doing well.  And, how do you get someone to clean the house for you? Mine is a abyss no matter what I do.

Jun. 2, 2008 at 9:39 AM I am very glad your dad is doing better.  My dad did the whole not religious and then suddenly religious thing too.  Mine did it with Catholicism.  He still trys to convert me.  I just say to him what I feel in my heart is right for me, not what you feel in your heart.

Glad your dad is doing well. Sounds like a good trip other than C getting sick. How nice your hosue was so clean too. When I came home from giving birth, my house was a mess! LOL

Eventhough my family is not really religious I have always sort of been the black sheep too. Now that I am Christian, I still kind of am...I think they know I've grown but just kind of think of me as sort of flaky. Maybe I am. LOL

When I was not yet a Christian (and even now) I couldnt stand those over religious types who judged and looked down on others (not that I am saying your family does this, but it may feel like it to you at times) and vowed to never be that way. Truthfully that is so far form how God calls us to be with each other.

Your dad's illness probably plays some roll is his and his wife's new beliefs. At least you can be glad if they find some comfort in it.

What a great post Kate. Glad you got to see your dad and the hill billy folks (I got some too). I wonder if my sis will turn religious cause she never was...

So you got to meet a fellow cafe mom? thats cool. I was in NY about an hr from one of my friends but no time at all to go visit. Maybe when I go back next time. I'm also soooo glad your house was clean when you got home. Funny thing every time I talked to my fam while I was away they'd say they were cleaning so l literally expected to come home to a different house - no luck. Dishes in the sink, dirty tub and I don't think anyone mopped. Oh well. They tried....

Welcome back and I hope you're able to sell your bonnaroo tix...
