I have been overtaken by ants! They're everywhere. I really don't want the landlord to have a pest control company come and spray their poison everywhere. I have kids and cats.

Anyone have any natural ideas to get rid of them? Any ideas, no matter how far fetched, will be appreciated!!!

Jun. 2, 2008 at 11:32 AM We had the same problem a bit ago. This is what we did. We killed all that we could find. Picked up everything off the floor (thankfully they were confined to the kitchen). Swept and mopped but you could shampoo carpets. Then I have some body mist spray that I sprayed and I did it heavily for it elimanates their trails. I have had a few roaming ants since then that come in through the windows and I did have to use poison for that. Also, ants will not cross a line of coffee grounds. Good luck!

Jun. 2, 2008 at 1:26 PM We use Ortho Homemax. It is safe for kids and pets once it dries and we only have to use it once a year. We spray around the house outside and where we see them inside.

Jun. 5, 2008 at 11:17 PM Follow the trail, killing the ants as you go along, when you get to where they are coming into the house, spray it WELL with Avon skin so soft (the original woodland fragrance). It knocks out the trail. Also, we had the same problem this year, I don't know how well your landlord would like it though... I got clear sealant from Walmart (the paint area), it comes in a tube, and I would follow the trail and use that sealant to seal up the place they were coming in at. My kitchen was overrun and we found they were coming in from some cracks around the window frame. I sealed around the whole window, killed the one's in the house, and haven't seen one since. Good luck.

Although, I do have a pest control that comes in, we still have the occasional ants.

Oranges will do the trick.  They say, set oranges out, when the ants take it back to Queen Ant, all ants are suppose to die from the acidity.

What happens with the Roach or Ant traps, is it gets rid of the surface ants, but because they are not coming back, Queen Ant produces more ants.  So the oranges are going right to the source.

If that doesn't work, I heard a plate of Beer kills them. Never tried it, but the oranges do work.

Good Luck!

Jun. 9, 2008 at 3:08 PM Mix vinegar, baking soda, and LAVENDER essential oil together. Spray it everywhere, it won't hurt anything, and you can clean your counters with this too. I do it really works for me. Plus it keeps scorpions and spiders away.
