My mother in law has killed her lungs. She now has lung disease and they can't do anything to help her. Drs are giving her 15 yrs to live. It is sad.

I don't understand why people smoke. I am so happy that I finally got my husband to stop smoking.

Jun. 2, 2008 at 1:16 PM I used to smoke.  Started when I was 16 and smoked for 8 years.  There's not a day that goes by that I am greatful that I quit.  I still get the cravings, but I know I am strong and just push it from my mind.  It has been 2 years to the month since I quit.

My husband's grandmother smoked.  4 years ago, she was diagnosed with lung cancer in January and passed away that year in June.  She NEVER STOPPED smoking!!!!!  She eventually moved into her oldest child/only son's house to die and he would have to wheel her outside and light the cigarette and hold it up to her mouth.  He did everything but inhale it for her.  It was sad how quickly she went downhill from diagnosis to death.

My FIL never smoked.  My husband has never smoked.  I never have.  My husband has 2 tried it and quit, the other smokes.  The one that smokes is so much like her grandmother that it is scary and she'll probably end up dead from cancer just like the grandmother she favors.

Jun. 2, 2008 at 4:45 PM I agree with you!  I have an Aunt who has smoked her whole life.  She chain smokes one after another.  It's hard to hold a conversation with her in person.
