I haven't seen my brother in 2 years!  He's in the Army and just finished an 18 month deployment in February.  This was his second tour of duty in Iraq.  He is supposed to be bringing his family back to visit in a couple of weeks and I am so excited!

Haven is my younger brother.  I am the oldest of three; I have a younger sister as well.  He has 4 amazing children.  He has 3 daughters with his wife, Jessie and a very handsome son from a previous relationship.  I've only met my nephew twice in his short 5 year life, but he's been living with Haven since he got back from Iraq and so he'll be coming back with them too!

This tour was harder then the first one.  Haven came back from the first tour clinically deaf from being too close to some explosions.  But that seems pretty minor to the near death experiences he had on this tour.  The building that he was living in at the beginning of the tour was bombed by mortar shells and he witnessed some of his friends suffering injuries from that.  He was almost electrocuted trying to cut booby-trapped baricades on a city street in Baghdad.  He was fired upon probably more times then I know of.  And he held a friend as he died from a sniper attack.

I am just so thankful that he made it home, because I know it could have been so many times that he would not have been so lucky.  I can't wait to see him and hug him.  I am so proud of what he does.  I may not agree with the politicians that have put him there, but I am proud of the fact that he puts other peoples lives before his own.  And he would sacrifice his own life so that someone else could have a better way of living.  I know I could not make that kind of career choice.  For my family it would be a different thing, but he does it for people he does not know.  It is amazing.  He is a hero in my eyes.  And I am so excited to be able to see him in a couple of weeks, because I know there are families who do not and will not have that pleasure.

I am thankful he is coming home to visit.
