My mom originally was thinking about naming me Nicole and my grandmother wanted her to name me Enid, after my great-grandmother, who's birthday I share.  Thankfully she nixed that in the bud.  I don't know why she decided on Nahdene, but she had a male (yes, I said male) friend whose name was Nahdine, so she just changed the spelling of it.  It's a version of Nadine, which in turn is a version of Nadia.  It's French or Slavic and it means "hopeful".  My middle name is Carmel, and it comes from the name of the holy mountain in Israel where the Shrine of the Bab is.  My grandmother is Baha'i, you see, and she figured since Mom wouldn't name me Enid, that she at least get a say on my middle name, and so there you have it.  I really don't like my middle name, because every time someone asks and I tell them, I get caramel jokes.

My real name IS Nicole and I think your name - Nahdine -  is pretty. I just annoyed when people just assume I go by "Nicky" (or any of it spelling variations). If I wanted to be called that, don't people think that I would introduce myself as that?

It's understandable about the middle name thing. I met a guy who said his middle name was Sherlock and he constantly got jokes about it, like "Elementary, my dear Watson," stuff.

I have been to Mt. Carmel, in Israel, but that was sooooo long ago. I was only 13 at the time. XD

My mom wanted to name me Liberty because I was born in the bicentennial year. Dad shot that one down. XD
