Many of you who have been following me know about my nemesis....A fellow teacher coworker who was hired this year and thinks she knows everything. We've knocked heads a few times over educational issues, and I even approached administration for assistance in resolving a conflict we were having during curriculum development team work. This is the same teacher who comes in late, leaves early, doesn't sign out of the building (in other words, she sneaks out), is rude to other teachers, and has a basic prima dona attitude. Everyone in the department is sick of it and was waiting for today, the glorious day of reckoning.....

Non-renewals were notified today.

For you non-teachers out there: A non-renewal is the nice way of saying a teacher without tenure is not being asked to return next year. (Nontenured teachers are on yearly contracts with no expectations of returning the following year. Administration tells these teachers by a certain date if they are not expected back in September.)

We all figured she would be a non-renewal. Our head teacher has complained to administration about her, as has several other people whom she has asked to "cover" for her. Administration knows the problems with her.

Well, guess what? We did have a non-renewal in our department, but it WASN'T HER! We have no clue why they let go the teacher that they cut. She's a good teacher, a little young and immature, but nothing she won't grow out of with experience. She's been here 3 years, which means she was due to get "tenure" in September. Now, she won't be returning.

But that other *itch will!

No one can understand it. Certainly not I. Why not let go the known trouble maker in our department?

Life just isn't fair sometimes..........

They probably didn't want to give the other teacher tenure.

That thought did cross our minds. In fact, two other teachers who were non-renewals were in their 3rd year with tenure coming in September. Unfortuantely, sometimes schools purposely let go 3rd yearers in order to scare everyone into obedience.
