Okay this is really getting annoying, My son Skyler who is almost a year old has just started sicking his whole hand down his throat to gag himself. I was just wondering if there were any another mothers who have had this happen or his happening. I have tried everything I think at first I just started to tell him No but that didn't work so I started telling him know and thumping his hand and he starts to cry and gag himself at the same time. I have went on line and read that you could put baking soda on his hands because it was non-toxic and it taste bad and that didn't work. And now I have just started to try and ignore it but that's hard when he gags himself so much that he finally throws up. If anyone has any Ideas that would be great and much appreciated.

Jun. 3, 2008 at 2:15 AM My daughter did the same thing for a long time. At first I tried to get her to stop, smacking her hand, taking her hand out of her mouth and holding it for 1-2 minutes or I would try to distract her and get her to do something else. Nothing seemed to work. Then I would ask her if she was ok and then if she didn't answer me I ignored her, if she did she had to take her fingers out of her mouth to answer. Sometimes she would throw up, after that I made sure not to make a big deal about it. I actually never said a word, just cleaned her up and sent her on her way. Eventually she got the idea that I wasn't going to pay her any attention and she quit. Now my son is doing it....the great circle begins again.....Good luck! Your gonna need it:)

Jun. 3, 2008 at 7:30 AM the boy I nanny for and my first grandson did this around your son's age. They eventually stopped. It was more annoying then harmful.
