Jun. 3, 2008 at 8:55 AM Well my brother's girlfriend was pregnant and when she had Eevee she was on medicad but took my brother's last name. And medicad stilled paid for it. So idk why they would say that? Unless the rules change from state to state?

Jun. 3, 2008 at 9:58 AM I believe they cannot descriminate because of your baby's last name,  Just put the babys last name that you want on the BC then submit it to Medical Assistance.  Im not familiar with MA but I would think they would have to cover baby no matter what.

Jun. 3, 2008 at 12:57 PM My daughter has my husband's name and she has medicaid (and it goes away after a year if you make above a certain amount of money unless the child is disabled--then it doesn't go away at 18 if the disability persists... at least in my state, speaking as someone who was a disabled child--I'm still on medicaid because I'm still disabled). Of course, I have my husband's last name, so I dunno. My paternal unit named me while my mom was unconscious and gave me his last name and I still got medicaid just fine--and it continued when I changed my name to hers when I was 7. Name shouldn't matter. You may just have to pay a fee or just argue with them for her to get his last name when you're not married, depending on the state.

MSuga...
Jun. 4, 2008 at 6:44 AM you have to apply for medicaide once the baby is born, your baby isn't automatically covered. My daughter in Florida and my daughter in New Hampshire had to apply after the baby was born. Also it doesn't matter what the child's name is.   What matters is their birth certificate, proof of state residence, and social security number of the child.
