I LOVED to read as a kid. Still do! Some of my favorite series were Nancy Drew, the Beezus & Ramona Quimby books by Beverly Cleary, Encyclopedia Brown (yes I am a dork), the Chronicles of Narnia, and any children's suspense/mystery books. I liked a lot of the Judy Blume books too, but my mom wasn't crazy about these, and they were more or less banned from my house. Lois Lowry wrote a series of books about a girl names Anastasia that I adored when I was in elementary school. When I was obsessed with this series, I swore if I ever had a little girl, I would name her Anastasia. I never changed my mind, and that is why my first daughter bears that name. People frequently ask me if I "got that name" from the 1997 animated movie, and when I explain the actual inspiration, I get strange looks.

I have saved many of my favorite  books from my childhood and am hoping that at least one of my daughters will take to them and grow a love of reading like I did.

I was a huge reader as a kid! I would have to read all the way to the end in a day or two because I'd have no patience! I loved mysteries.  I actually won a "Young Author's Award" while I was in 4th grade.  Some day, when I have more time.....I would like to start to write again! My daughters are now following in my foot-steps. My kids love to write as well. I feel that this comes from their love of reading.

Brittany reads a chapter book (usually about 80 pages or more) in a day, she is in 3rd grade. She likes the American Girl series, any mystery series, Hannah Montana books, and various others. She knew how to read well BEFORE kindergarten! (She's quite brilliant, if I do say so myself. I'm so proud of her.) My other daughter Lexie reads chapter books (Junie B. Jones, Hannah Montana, Mary Kate and Ashley Mystery series, etc.) in a few days at a time. She is only in 1st grade.

I have always read to my kids and I'm so glad that they are so into it. I would stack a big pile of picture books in their cribs and then I'd find each one in the morning, flipping through each one at a time when they were babies. I started them young!

LOL, I also liked the Judy Blume books as a tween-teen, and yes some of them can be a bit on the raunchy side! Remember..."Deenie", "Forever", "Wifey"...lol!! I just started "Summer Sisters" recently! Have you read that one??

Jun. 3, 2008 at 11:00 AM I read a lot as a kid too, although I grew up in Puerto Rico, so I was not familiar with all these books that now my DD reads. I read Spanish books, many would be considered Spanish literature, but they were easy reading for me. I also read all the classics in Spanish, you know, Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, etc.  Still love to read!!

Jun. 5, 2008 at 3:01 PM I also read a lot as a kis.  I loved the Little House books, Harriet the Spy, Bobbsey Twins, anything about disasters and the paranormal, all the myths I could find.  I read all kinds of stuff.  My kids are both readers too.  I can't get enough books to satisfy my daughter.  She has to reread stuff all the time.
