Did you read as a child? If so, did you have a favorite fictional character that you admired or wanted to be?

In my family I have always been known for keeping my books near me. I don't go anywhere without one tucked in my bag. Little house on the prairie was always one of my favorites and I even tried to dress like Laura from the tv show. I went as far as to get my grandma to make me a dress for my birthday, and I wore it everyday for weeks. I was like 6 or 7 at the time and school was out for the year so no one cared. My Mom helped me to learn how to make bread and do the things that Laura would of had to know how to do. It was a wonderful history lesson and it made me appreciate the luxuries of the 1970's. I can't wait for my daughter to read the Little House on the Prairie Series. I took her camping and she asked how we would cook without a microwave. Times really have changed!

As I grew older I fell in love with Little Women. I still love that book. I wanted to be Jo! I reread that book every few years and it means something new to me every time. I'm on my third copy of the book. If you have read the sequels, you will know that Jo went on to become a writer and started a school for children. I admired her so much that even now I can't believe that she was only a fictitious character.

Jun. 3, 2008 at 2:41 PM Dont ya wish that more books today were written as well and as loved as those. Ya took me down memory lane...  That show was how i learned about life and what a real family was like.  We need more role models like these today.  Little women was read and re-read by me for years.  I have had several copies also.  I dont have a daughter to share them with but i made sure that my neices knew of them.  Thanks for a happy break in my day.
