I was 8 yrs old. Itchy and covered with calamine lotion, i got the huge hardback book down and settled back on the noggahide couch. My dad used to say, "Two dozen Noggas died for this couch". LOL! Anyway, i opened it to the first page, and immediately became engrossed in the story. I was entertained by the detail and character development. I read the entire novel during the week home from school. I haven't stopped reading since that first book, "The Shining" by Stephen King.

Ha! I read a lot of books that I probably should have waited a few years to read! That book still scares the crap out of me! Did you have nightmares or what?

LOL! I love your button avatar!!! LMAO!
I didn't have nightmares, amazingly! But when i saw the movie and Jack Nicholson and whats-her-name (Olive Oil in Popeye), brought those characters to life on screen, i was truly terrified!

I read "Where the red fern grows" and got to the end and the dogs die. I cried for weeks after. If I even thought of the book, I welled up with tears!

AWW! Steph. I haven't read "Where the red fern grows". I won't now, for sure! I also read a series of books kinda like Nancy Drew mysteries, but it was Trixie Belden.
