I am looking for a little bit of advice and helpful tips here. In about a month and a half, my family and I are making a long trek in a van from Maine to Florida. (First we're going to Atlanta, but regardless, its about 19 hours of driving one way)... Ive been looking all over for helpful things for the trip, which I will post at the end of this.. I am looking for any things that may have helped you on a trip. I have a 3 1/2 year old and an almost 2 year old. We are leaving at night, so that knocks out a good 10 hours but leaves us with about another 10. I have dvd players, porta pottys for the oldest one, and I know the basics, their favorite cds, books, coloring books, but im drawing a blank on anything else. We usually fly so its not that hard for me but this year we decided to drive so we can make stops on our way back in NYC and DC since ive never been to either. So any advice anyone has would be awesome.

Here are some of the things I have already that seem like they'll be great for traveling..

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7977202 for when we stop at rest stops or are at big places.. i thought this was better then those ones that look like dog leashes or have a big bulky teddy  bear on the back considering the temperatures down there

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4645522 these seem great for booster seats since im sure we wont always go to restaurants that have appropriate ones

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5430277 for when my oldest whos potty trained cant wait the 8 miles to the next rest stop

so those are a few things I thought id share with ya'll and show you also that I have found for myself.. I am looking for any tips so please feel free.. even if its not a product and just some advice on how to get thru the trip.. Thanks!

Jun. 3, 2008 at 2:48 PM Plan for "rest" stops that will let your kids run around a little bit. Bring a ball for them to kick around or crawl after. It's hard to be tied down in a car seat for hours at a time. Pack some food. Fast food for every meal will mess with their bowels and make them cranky. Relax and enjoy the trip. Kids pick up on YOUR mood and multiply it ten times over!
