Dear Mom's,

I haven't been on here in months... but something happend yesterday, that only a mother would understand...

I have a 2 year old boy named Jay, a 2 month old girl named Verona, and a wonderful husband named Jason. Well, my perfect little family almost fell apart...

I am a Private Event & Wedding Coordinator in The Hamptons so my schedule is a little crazy. So yesterday, while I was at work my husband called me in my office. (He never calls my office, only my cell phone) So I pick up the phone "Hey babe, what's up?"... "Hey, soooo Jay sort of got hit..." my husband says.... "Okay, so what? He's a boy isn't he?" I replied. "Baby... He got run over... by the Ice Cream Man..." And there is was... I froze. "I'm coming home" I said, then hung up the phone. I ran out of the office almost slipped running through the restaurant. My friend ran after me and insisted on driving me home (good thing because I could barely walk, let alone drive.) So she started driving and I started to panic... Breathing heavy. On & Off crying. Fidgeting. Was this a joke? Maybe it was just a sick joke... my husband and I are pretty young (I'm 20, he's 24) Yea, this is an immature joke... Then as we get closer to my house... I hear it... The ambulance was right behind us. I flipped! Okay this is real now... Omg, what do I do? Speed up! I'm freaking out. The ambulance passes us and we are right behind it. We pull up at my house to cops and ambulances everywhere and all my neighbors watching me get out of the car. It was like they wanted to see my reaction. Anyway, I run into my house (there are people in uniforms everywhere) and I go to my son who is laying on the couch with blood all over his little legs. I'm hysterical... I go up to him and he says "The Ice Cream Man ran me Over! The Ice Cream Man ran me Over!" I could barely see I was crying so hard. He wasn't even crying. As they were about to take him in the ambulance he said "Mommy, are you gonna be ok?" It was the sweetest thing I had ever heard...
So after speaking to my husband this is basically what happend...
My brother-in-law (who lives with us) Went outside to get Ice Cream when he heard the music down the block. My son ran outside with no pants on. So my husband ran after him and told him to stay in the house and put some pants on... Then my husband starts to feed our 2 month old daughter and my 2 year old boy runs out the door after his uncle...but by the time he got outside my brother-in-law had already bought the ice cream... So as my brother-in-law walked in the front of the Ice Cream truck my son ran around the back. The Man put the truck in reverse because he was parked behind another car and the bumper knocked my son on the street. He has tire marks on the back of his legs so he must have been face down when the Ice Cream Truck ran over his legs...
When we got to the hospital. He was Just telling all the doctors "The Ice Cream Man ran me over!" and they asked him his name and he said he didn't know... I started freaking out, crying, grabbed my husband, thinking this is it! He's never gonna be the same... Then I looked at my son and said "Jay... What's spiderman's name?" and he looked at me, paused, and said "Peter Parker" & laughed. I looked at the doctor and said "he's fine"
A few X-Rays (no broken bones) and a few stiches and we were home watching Spiderman 1,2, & 3. He's all of 2 feet tall and if he were turned the other way this may have been a very different outcome... He can't really walk, but he'll be just fine with no long term injuries... Thank god!

I hope you all have a SAFE & happy Summer.

i'm sorry you went thru that.  I went thru that when my son was 3. (he's 15 1/2 now)   it is the scariest most heart wrenching thing and I'm so glad your son is ok.  Mine had pins in his leg and it crushed his leg.   I let my ex have him and after 1 day, he let him play outside alone.   a lady saw the 9yr old but not my son on his big wheel toy.   she ran right over him.   it is an awful thing to go thru.  I was in NC and they were in Oklahoma...it kills me to think how you felt.   it changes how you view driving thru a neighborhood for good.    What a story for him to tell as he grows up!  My son doesn't remember now but did for a long time after he was in that ambulance!!
