Today we had our appointment with fertility specialist.  He was really great and I like him a lot.  Our insurance doesn't cover anything and he doesn't take payment plans, but we are going to stick with him anyway because he's so great....and number 3 in the nation!

Anyway, we finally got some answers today!  There are two problems:

1.  My vaginal wall is producing antibodies that are killing the sperm.  It's a war-zone in there, apparently.  So, they are all dead by the time they reach the cervix.

2.  He performed an ultrasound to see how my follicles were looking.  I am on cycle day 9 so he said they should be 15 mm at a minimum, and they were only 10 mm.  Also, my other ovary had some tiny ones that he said had been produced in earlier months but never reached maturity.  So, he said, it is possible that I am not even ovulating at all.

Be not afraid, my friends!  With the miracle of modern science we can bypass both of these problems.  First, I have to go the specialist again on cycle day 2 or 3 to have another ultrasound and start my first round of clomid (for those of you who don't know what that is, he said it basically triggers your brain to tell your ovaries to ovulate).  I take clomid for five days (which will make me ragingly hormonal on top of being on my period) and then start taking ovulation predictor kits on day 10.  If, by day 12 I do not have a positive test, they are going to have me come in again to have another ultrasound to test the follicles.

Then, if I do get a positive ovulation test, I have to come in the very next day and they will perform IUI insemination, which is where they clean up the sperm and get all the best swimmers and insert them directly into my cervix so they do not die.

Then, it's the two week wait...if my period comes I'll start all over...if not, I'll start painting the nursery :)

Pray for us!
