Any advice out there on how to make a toddler try new foods.  My 2yr. old will only eat baby food (that I have to feed him(, Chicken nuggets, french fries and crackers????

Any advice would be appreciated.

Jun. 3, 2008 at 7:06 PM hmmm that is tough. Well the thing is that if they are really hungry they will eat. YOu have to attempt to try new things with your 2 year old. Slowly do finger foods and see what he does. Also, sometimes at this age they tend to drink more than they eat.

Jun. 3, 2008 at 7:07 PM This might sound mean, but give him what you intend him to eat and offer no other choice.  If he is hungry he will eat it.  It might take a couple of times to get the idea across, but when he is hungry he will eat what you give him!  yeah, i am a mean mom like that!

Jun. 3, 2008 at 7:08 PM You put what you want him to eat on his tray, and if he won't eat it, or tosses it over the side, then you say, "okay, but that was dinner" and don't feed him again. When he's hungry, he will eat. And don't give in, and feed him. He's going to make messes. Let him. Give him the spoon or fork, and tell him to eat. Period.

Try putting a tray of different foods out on the table, and let your child go at it.

Don't interfere if it looks like he's having trouble, unless he's choking. Let him

figure it out on his own. Stop giving baby food all together. That's what worked

for my son. He's still picky, but it's because he's Autistic. It does work though.

Be patient too.
