Ohhhh boy, what a theme for a book addict. LOL

Did I read when I was a child? Yes. I started reading when I was 4 years old. My parents used to play a word game where they'd give me a word and I'd have to go look it up in the dictionary. If it was an animal, then I had to go look it up in our encyclopedia. I thought it was a blast, and it really spurred me to pick up more books.

I was reading junior high/high school level books by the time I was in the 3rd grade...or so my dad says. I don't know that I paid all that much attention. If it had words, was either science fiction or fantasy, and was lying around where I could get it, I picked it up and read it. I did a reading comprehension test when I was in the 5th grade. My dad STILL has that stupid certificate in a frame on his bedroom wall. It says I read at a college level, and comprehended almost 88% of what I read. Which, for a 5th grader, must be something strange.

I still read voraciously, but I've widened my genre to include nonfiction (biographies and history), poetry, romances, mysteries, and things that really don't have a classification but are still out there to read anyway. My reading comprehension is still good, though I don't think I comprehend near as much as I did when I was a kid. My brain is being melted by my kids...LOL

And on that note...I always wanted to be Sara Crewe, or Jo March.  Or Alanna of Tortall.  Or Herald Talia.  Or Herald-Princess Elspeth.  Or Veralidaine Sarrasri.  Or...or...or...or.........ok, ok, if there was a female protagonist I wanted to be here.  If there was a male protagonist, I wanted to hang out with them.  I only have a few books I can honestly say I really despised the protagonists and wished by the end that the antagonists had won.

Thanks for commenting to my journal post :o)

I had a really high reading level as a kid too.  in second grade when they tested me they said I had a sixth grade reading level, and by sixth grade I was reading at college level too.  Was in Honors English classes in High School.  Really loved Fantasy type books too.

I know what you mean about kids melting your brain.  Sometimes, now that I have kids, i have trouble with memory and spelling and typing.... maybe if i had more time to read i could get my level back up to college level again....

I love the fairy pictures on your profile, they are pretty!!  (Oh, not to nit-pick, but in your personal statement, the song you are talking about "Bitch" is by Meredith Brooks, not Alanis Morissette.)  Another mommy-brain moment?? LOL
