Since so many mommies-to-be are asking about what to pack for the hospital, I am putting a list up that I made a while back. Several things will be unnecessary if you are having a c-section.
What to pack:
- Toothbrush and Tooth paste
- Favorite pillow from home (Use colored cases to distinguish from the hospitals )
- Music you would like for during labor and after as well (if you want to do this bring your own CD player or MP3 player)
- Camera with film or memory card and batteries (disposable are also nice)
- Camcorder with charged batteries and accessories
- Any clothes you want to wear -- I always take a robe and a few pairs of socks as well as slippers and a couple of night gowns (I hate hospital gowns)
- List of people to call after the baby is born as well as all phone numbers
- Lip Balm or chap stick (your lips get dry in labor)
- Baby Book for getting the foot prints done by the nurse when she does the paperwork
- Focal Point (some women like a picture to focus on while pushing)
- Suckers or hard candy
- Snacks for your labor partner
- Calling Card for Long Distance Calls
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Makeup (if you wish to have any -- after giving birth it always feels good to go home looking nice)
- Pony tail holders -- if you have long hair you will want to be able to pull it out of your face.
- Deodorant
- Pads -- big thick ones. The hospital provides some, but they are not the greatest. The overnight ones with wings -- super sized are best.
- A special picture outfit for baby (this does not need to be fancy, comfortable is best, but the hospitals usually do pictures that you can buy at a later date)
- Nursing bras and pads
- Going home outfit for baby (should be washed -- preferable in something like dreft or all free and clear)
- Blanket for Baby
- Car Seat with instructions -- you have to have one and have it properly installed or you cannot leave the hospital with the baby. IT is best to have it installed ahead of time. For babies the ones with a removable base are the best so you can just pop out the carrier with ease.
- Going home outfit for mom (You will still look to be about 6 months pregnant.)
- You may also want to take a baby book with you. Sometimes it is nice to look through after you have had the baby....like what to expect the first year

Great list. My only addition is make sure you have two outfits for baby. They are unpredictable and often mess up one just as you are trying to leave!
The other thing I always bring is my DH's toothbrush, and a change of shirt.
I am packing my hospital bag today! I am feeling ready!
