Ok my step son has had a mohawk for over A year now. Our friends kid had one last summer and Sebastion really liked it so we let him have one. Give thekid freedome of expression right? (hes 3 at this point)

Anyways His mom let him keep it so he still has it. So he wanted to dye it Red . like the American Flag. Or The little Mermaid. Red. He would tell you this. So I put some cherry Koolaid in his hair he loved it and it was gone 2 days later. Whatever.

Well he Tells his real mom that he wants a red mohawk. She dyes her hair red, like Lindsay Lohan red (It looks awful on her but whatever) so she dyes his hair the same color. Its Permanant hair dye. Not only does the kid look hideous with ths orange carrot top looking mohawk but those are some strong chemicals to put on a childs head,.

Koolaid is sugar and food coloring, But permanant, drugstore brand hair dye on a 3 (recently turned 4 ) year olds  head? And people ask all the time "Do you dye his hair? Is that his real color?" and I just say "His Mother Does it" I know that they dont dye childrens hair in a salon because of the chemicals. Do you think this is right?

I would never permanently dye a little kid's hair.  Kool-aid is one thing, just like temporary tattoos...  my kids are obsessed with those but I'm not about to go tote them off to the tattoo parlor.

Jun. 6, 2008 at 1:59 PM my children have always died their hair  and my daughters hair is way healthier than mine lol, but there is soooo many gels that are colored so they dont have to do it to such a young one...

I would never dye my daughter's hair.  When she is 18 she can do whatever she feels like.  My mom started letting me dye and use sun in at 13 to my hair.  I dyed it for years and years...actually the last time I dyed it was about a month before I found out I was pregnant with DD.  Finally my natural hair color grew back.  I actually regret dying it all those years.  I have been so blessed that all my hair has never fell out from all the dying.

Oh my, Uh NO!! I would not.  My son has wanted color in his hair for a long time but it was so light that even kool aid stains his hair sometimes.  It is a but darker now so it comes out, I have even done the color combs which are temp too.....

No, I know my son has been asking me to dye his spike in the front of his hair and I might cave now that he is going into Middle School...But not yet quite convinced that it is appropriate...Unless this becomes an issue I don't think I will cave...lol

I know it is important to allow children to be individuals and allow there personality to grow but the little boy in your story is a bit young and if you ask me, it's the mothers personality  is what seems to want attention...

Jun. 6, 2008 at 2:36 PM Ugh, no way.  I'd have his father tell the woman not to do that again without discussing it with him first.  As his father he has the right to be involved in a decision like that.  I'm apalled that someone would think that was okay.  Maybe to use something less toxic.  By the way, I'm all for freedom of expression through hair color and cut, etc, but I think that's over the top for a little person.
