How is it that I work full time and get no public assitance save insurance for my disabled child and when I make a payment after 5pm, I get dropped..and yet.... I get a letter from the Child Support office today. They spoke with the child support worker in California. She said that they have a location for Nathan as of 5/12 so they will try to serve him again with registration papers. However, he is currently receiving cash, medical and food stamps. They will still attempt to register the order and monitor the case to see if her ever goes off of public assistance and becomes employed. and then they can issue an income withholding order for child support deductions. He owes $18,000 in back child support and they still allow him to collect public assistance. What the hell?! How does that work? Shouldn't there be something in the system that stops people from sitting home on their ass and collecting assitance when they owe child support?

Jun. 9, 2008 at 5:35 PM I just don't understand how this happens.  Reading this kind of thing just burns me up...along the same lines as illegal immigrants and FELONS from other countries getting organ transplants in the States (check out the scandal at UCLA Medical Center).  How does that happen??? Why are there no checks and balances?  Wouldn't a little extra $$ spent to police these kinds of things end up SAVING our government millions of dollars in the long run?  People who owe child support should  not be allowed to live off the government OR their benefits should partly go to the person who's owed the support.  Honestly, I'm just disgusted...
