thought I'd take a moment to fill y'all in on our scooter!
So, most of you know that we'd been talking about when to get a second set of wheels, and what kind. Yesterday morning DH asks me if I'd go to the local motorsports place - they had this one Honda Ruckus in stock, and he wanted to look at it. Now, he's the King of Research, so he knew just about everything one could know about the Ruckus without having actually seen or built one. Joined forums, talked to people, everything he could do online, he did.
Well, we also had plans to go to the bicycle shop, so I could look and try to choose a bike for me. (Mine sorely needs replacing - she's as old as me!) We had lunch first, since we were on the other side of town, and then went to the dealer. He was excited! Looked at it, browsed around the showroom a bit, kept going back to the scooter, looked at the helmets again, and finally we talked to the salesman. (He'd introduced himself first, we just told him we were only looking, initially. Great guy.) Now DH had been going back and forth as to whether or not he really wanted to do this. What about riding in the rain, what about the idiots driving on our town's main artery at 5 p.m. on Fridays, what about the winter, etc..... so I said "What kind of financing options do you have?"
Well, folks, an hour later - we'd signed all the paperwork to make monthly payments, and were out the door. "Pooh" (our salesman) gave us both a quick lesson on riding, mechanics, and all that goes with it - DH had never ridden a scooter, and it'd been over 20 years for me - and told us to take it around the circle [that goes around the store, a business road] until we felt comfortable with it, and to come back for him if we had any other questions for him.
Okay - now you want to see it? I'm having trouble resizing these, so forgive me if the pics are gigantic!

There she is, in all her glory. Bare bones, yes, but hey - she gets 90 mpg.
NINETY miles PER GALLON.
OMG. Isn't that awesome?!? Take THAT, Big Oil!!
Oh, and we left the dealer with a full tank! See that little bump on the footbed? That's the gas tank. DH said he was thinking about it all on the way home (he was driving, since we just bought a helmet for him, for the time being) and said he just started laughing maniacally. This little dude has made him absolutely giddy! I've watched my man turn back into a teenage boy with the thrill of "look at me!"! LOL
Here's what the "dashboard" looked like after we brought it home:

Oh, and it does get up to 40mph. I followed him home, just to help him with the nervousness of Friday rush-hour traffic, and it took us about an hour to get here. We ran into an unexpected detour - we almost never get to that side of town - and made two stops along the way. Of course, this little scooter won't trip the lights either, so we had extra time waiting for the light to turn a few times.
My Bro just called me (I emailed him about this already) and reminded me to mention that it is new. It does only have 19 miles on it in the above picture. I think it's a 2007, the 2008's had more color options - but he liked the silver, so we were lucky in that this was the last one at the dealer. Pooh said it was the last one statewide, no one can keep them in stock! With gas prices the way they are, I totally understand!
And that was the main reason we bought this. Our payments are super low, and it's a 24-month plan with no penalty for early payoff. Suh-weet! Bumper-to-bumper warranty, HondaCare (transferable!) is nationwide coverage, roadside assistance... the works. And we can afford it, which would so not have been possible with getting a car. Now we can hold off on that until I go back to work this fall, when it will be necessary!
Ah, the dryer is finished. Had to wash the backing fabric for JT's blanket that he doesn't know I'm making for him - I have until Monday afternoon to get it finished, and I've barely started! But it will be easy and shouldn't take long. I already have the pillow covers since I had enough backing for that last night. Time for me to fly!
Until Tuesday~
